So last Saturday was a long but fun day for us in Light Chemist. We played out first show in Pasadena, as well as got to rehearse at a cool studio out there called Crown City Recordings before our show.
We got to Crown Studio around 11:30am after having a hard time finding the place. We had a quick meeting with Adam, who hooked us up with the studio time, as well as met CJ, who is a 17 year old guitar prodigy who would be playing after us that night at the venue. Here we are setting up to rehearse at the studio. Kenny made it out to the studio later that day after sitting in traffic for almost 2 hours. You got to love LA traffic. Chad can also make his eyes glow by harnessing the dark powers from the infernos of hell. Actually, he can’t really do that. My camera just sucks at not making people’s eyes red.
After we were done in the studio, we had a good 5 hours to kill before we had to be at the venue for the show that night. So what would any band in our situation do? That’s right…we found the closest Guitar Center and annoyed all the employees in every department by playing loudly and obnoxiously on every instrument we could get our hands on.
Daniel found the tiniest Fender Strat ever made. Perfect for his small Asian hands.
Colin decided he wanted to go acoustic, so he found quite possibly the worst sounding acoustic instrument in the store (and it wasn’t even made by Washburn). Sure he could take this guitar camping or on a plane, but who would want to travel with a guitar that makes them sound and look like a douche? Colin does! That’s who!
After our time in Guitar Center, we finally decided to head to Terrace, which was the venue we were playing at. Our buddies Shamus started the night off with a killer set. We followed up after them and played to an almost entirely full venue. Not bad for a band who had never even stepped foot in Pasadena before.
Any time you get to play at a venue with curtains, you feel a little less like a cheap hooker, and more like a moderately priced hooker. Colin had just farted in this picture, so we all took a sec to acknowledge his gaseous surprise. I was so ashamed, I couldn’t even look at him.
But in all seriousness, the show was a blast, and we met some really cool people, and even made some new fans. That CJ kid I was telling you about even played a guitar solo at the end of “Saying All the Right Things” with us that made the people at the front of the crowd bleed internally.
Anyway, I’ll post some more pictures from the night later. Thanks to everyone who came out to the show! And thanks to my Mom for taking the picture of us at the show.
